406 HDi Wipers

Unread post by DHallworth »

On the way home from work last night the wipers on my 406 started playing up.

They were on position two so constant but not fast then all of a sudden they stopped half way up the windscreen.

I switched them off and then flicked them into the wipe once position and they went for around 10 - 12 wipes and stopped in a random position on the screen.

Intermittent wipe doesn't seem to work at all and when washing the windscreen the wipers will go for around 10 - 12 swipes and just stop again randomly.

When they start to go nuts I can hear the relay above my knee click and I can hear it click again when they stop.

Anybody got any ideas? With the weather we're getting in Glasgow at the moment I kinda need the wipers working 100% really!

Thanks guys!

David.

Hi David

It it an Hdi? Sounds like an electronic fault rather than a mechanical one. If its a late one its probably got multipex wiring and will probably need the fault codes read.

Peter

Sorry, I just noticed the header - it is an Hdi

Hi Peter,

It's a 99 V registered car.

It is however a D9 model it doesn't have multiplex wiring or a rain sensor.

Might try and stick it on the Lexia tonight and see what comes back.

Well the cars been on a Lexia and there's no fault codes stored.

Have spoken to my friend who has worked at a dealer for over 20 years who has told me it'll either be the motor or the BSI.....

God I hope it's the motor!

I changed the motor in my 406 and it solved the problem completely.

My brother had the same problem on his W reg 306 HDi Meridian, he changed the wiper motor on that and it solved that too! It seems to be a common problem so it's possible you've got another faulty motor!
