service spanner

Unread post by rongee68 »

hi there, just got 406 and found a few things to sort out.
how do i get rid of service spanner
right hand indicator comes on now and again on its own, also noticed that if i close a window (electric ) that also makes r/h indicator flash, thats happend a couple of times but not every time i close a window.
ive seen somewhere on the forum that you can get a non cat front pipe, any idea's where?
how easy is it to do a clutch as ive seen on forum that thrust bearing fork can be a problem
its a 2000/ 110 hdi
many thanks ron

First find yourself a small independent Peugeot Specialist as I think you may need one??
Spanner is easy, press and hold the button on instrument face (not trip button)turn on ignition, watch the digits go from 10-0 spanner out.It obviously has not been serviced for ages? (Cam belt? hint?)
The indicator fault will be the switch which on that model is all one unit called a "coms 2000".(Everything around the collum)
Cant comment on the front pipe other than that engine is designed to run with a particulate filter so why get rid of it?
As for the clutch I would say its beyond a DIY job.Its a "pull clutch" where the bearing is part of the clutch cover with a special technique to dis/re connect .Its a lot of work,a big heavy box, and on one model you have to remove the sub frame.Find someone who has done one.
Now you know why it was up for sale? They are still a great car though, tough as old boots.
