C5 'Airbag fault'

Post by Gibbo2286 »

I've had that message on my screen since I bought the car, think it might be time to fix it, any suggestions before I start digging?

check for burned wires and/or loose connectors. which one is faulty?
mine is (not yet fixed) lateral side airbag faulty and I`ve found the wires with burned isolation all the way under floor carpet to the central console. I have replaced entire burned section but not luck... I have to remove dashboard :x

Have mine sometimes say passenger’s airbag fault by hot weather, then it goes away. :?
The Xantia does that from loose airbag connectors under the front seats.

take precautions: do not operate any of airbag wires without disconnecting battery first!

Its often caused by the wires wich run under the passenger footwell. If you life back the carpet on the passenger side floor, remove the foam block at the front and there you will see a selection of wires.

I had this on a previous C5, I took the connectors apart, cleaned them with contact cleaner and repositioned, as best I could, the wires away from under the foam block. It seems to happen at first when passengers are in the car with feet on the block. Mine did not appear again after doing this.

I have the same message on mine.
Not always when I first take off, but some time during the journey it pops up. I'll let you know if any of the suggested fixes wirk on mine.

Thanks for the tips, when I manage to raise the necessary enthusiasm I'll have a go. :)
