Sylvia's ZX - Written Off! Assistance with 'Couriering' req

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Hi all,

With great sadness, Sylvia's ZX was written off last week.

I see the vultures circling....

it is recoverable!

It needs a cat, and middle section of the exhaust, rear section seems OK as it is only 6 months old and substantial enough (HOPEFULLY) to not to have to replace.

I purchased a rear bumper on Ebay and got a fright when I got a courier quote to collect. This is because of its size. All companies use a Volumetric Conversion Factor where size outweighs actual weight.

The I thought...

French Car Forum Couriers.

The bumper is located in Coalway near Coleford, Gloucestershire and I am in Nottingham.

Does anyone live near Coalway, Coleford and able to pick it up to pass onto another member?

Your assistance would be much appreciated.

We could even meet up at one of the upcoming rallies if needs be.

Many thanks,

Rhothgar

I'm five miles from Coalway and could pick it up but lord only knows where we could do a meet.

Have you tried parcel2go http://www.parcel2go.com for a courier quote, I have an account with them and get some very decent prices, sent four Renault Laguna wheels weighing in at 32Kg and packed together in a 78cm x 45cm parcel from here to Leeds for £21.60 +vat.

I use them a lot Gibbo, problem is all the wrapping of a bumper, they may not accept it without tons of cardboard, bubble wrap etc..

Ever tried wrapping four steel wheels John so they don't crash together and knock the paint off? :D

Finished up with a cross between a giant pack of Polos and an oil barrel.

We use Interparcel in our business but the problem is they take the volumetric size as if it were in a box! You can book it by saying the bumper is only 6 cm think 230cm long (width plus returns) and 34 cm deep but that is not its volumetric size and when it goes through one of their lasers (if it fits through any machine because you've 'lied' about the dimensions) then you have a problem.

We'd get 32kg for £6.99 even at that size.

Are you going to any of the upcoming rallies or meeting up with any other Forum member in due course?

I know CitroJim has family in Gloucestershire but where I don't know. If we could get it to Jim through natural movement of forum members. I often drop in for a cup of tea - that would be ideal.

Ther seller has wrapped it in a blanket and bubblewrap, how much though, I do not know. Naturally as it is a freshly sprayed bumper which didn't fit their car (3 dr as opposed to 5 dr) it would be nice to receive it as it left.

I thought of going down on mine but couldn't work out how I would balance a bumper on my head at the National Speed Limit so gave up on that thought! :?

I'll be going up the M5 to both the CXM and Straford rally. Coleford is about 20m east according to Google Maps. I may be able to help you out, providing you make a donation to the forum

Drop me a PM.

Another donation? Just made one.

Not a problem. Another year's server money - how's that sound? Not £40 x 12, mind!!!

Your profile states Exeter. Are you actually Abergavenny way then?

If you don't have to do any real detour then it would be great. Not sure what our movements are for Stratford or CXM. Everything's up in the air at the moment for those weekends.

Even if it gets to Jim from there that would be good. I'm pretty sure he'll be attending CXM.

Perhaps I ought to actually ask if he minds awfully rather than letting him read this!

No worries Roger, I'm used to people making plans for me behind my back

Yep, Indeed I'll be at CXM and if I can be of any help whatsoever in helping this bumper toward you them I'll be more than happy to.... But you knew that anyway :D

Not sure when I'll next be running north of here though...

Hi Jim

Sorry!

As we don't know our manoeuvres iro any of the upcoming rallies (plans of going to Austria on the bike to visit Sylv's family - finances permitting though certainly cheaper than flying at this time of year) - Does the forum fund give loans out? :P

Would it be possible to get it back to yours and next time we have a meeting in London, we'll pop in with some PG Tips and Milk?
