xant s1 suspension issues

Post by Timmo »

Evening all,
my local bike shop mechanic and good mate has an s1 td xant, of late he said the back ends been very lazy and feels very wallowy, he commented that if it was a shock and coil car he'd say the dampers shot, not the usual stiff biuncy stylee through duff spheres, couple of times back ends sunk down when moving, stop for a minute and pops back up,
Also has an oddity that has a diagonal issue with the car that the front left corner and back right really arnt right, car feels like its breaking away on bends when before was fine,

Please excuse my poor descriptions, meant to post last night wzhen was fresher in the head!
Anyone any ideas??
Ta muchly in advance!

How long have you had the car/the problem been there?

If there is no knocking to indicate a worn ball joint or steering pulling to one side (I take it the tyre pressures are correct?) check the ride height is correct/looks reasonable and that there is no unusual tyre wear to indicate worn rubber bushes. If all that is OK sphere's will be your next port of call, firstly to check for pressure then if the damper is secure within the sphere. Also take a look at the car from behind to ensure that the rear wheels are vertical and not looking like / \ as it indicates worn rear arm bearings, if they are badly worn you'll often get a squeak as the suspension moves up and down over bumps etc.

maybe the front spheres are getting low on gas so it makes the rear feel softer,

first this would be with car at normal hight and engine running press down on each corner to see if they all have movement,
