It's worth a try. Is the gearbox a manual or automatic ? What mileage has the car covered ? has there been any oil leak observed ?. A check for oil level, and top up if necessary, is usually all that's recommended for manual gearboxes.

hi
just purchased car 54 plate 42 k 6 speed box ,
whine delevoped a couple of days after i got car mainly from 60-40 mph and quite loud
took car to local dealer who wanted to have a look inside the box but the place where i bought car from wanted to have a look
took car back to them and they rang to say they have replaced oil and everything is ok
so is this just a quick fix and the problem will delevop at a later date ie once warranty has ran out
or do i say iam not happy with what they have done esp when one citroen dealer wanted to take box out
cheers

hi
the answer was that an oil change did reduce it a little bit but whine still there and garage wasnt prepared to do any more to the car .
so not happy with it the garage refunded my money ,
off to look for another one now

I don'y know anything of these 6 speed boxes, but 42k doesn't seem much mileage for any gearbox. Unless the odometer reading wasn't correct? Anything about the car which might suggest it had done a higher mileage?

hi
yes the car looked looked like it had only 42 k
service history ,clean as a whistle under the bonnet
steering wheel and pedals no wear on them
i just didnt fancy it breaking and having an expensive repair bill

so in the mean time no car until monday then ill go and pick the new beast up guess what it is

yep another C5 06 2hdi estate see how this one fairs
