What car is it?

The usual cause for Xantia's is the ultrasonic sensors, IIRC around £30 new from dealers.

If it is a Xantia you should be able to shut it up.
Open the bonnet and on the right rear there is a covered keyslot for the ignition key - looks like a clutch slave reservoir.
Turn the key to silence the alarm.
Lights will still flash until the problem is rectified.

They removed it in 1996 if I remember correctly
hold the key and lock position until it clunks.the car will be dead locked but the alarm will not be active

If you'd like to know whether the ultrasonic sensors are the cause of false alarms, prior to locking the car press the alarm button on the dash until the LED stays on then lock the doors. If the alarm no longer gives false alarms you've found the cause.
