Talbot Express problem, camper stuck on a french campsite....

Post by jgra1 »

hi all.. my IT manager is stuck in France.. as much as he annoys some people here, I dont think anyone really wants their RAM not to be upgraded sometime this year

He told me the van would start, but throttle would, well throttle it.. he is reasonably competant, and his first thought was the fuel filter.. he also said the van had been a bit rough for a few days..

I must admit I dont know much about the engine.. it's a N/A 2.5.. can anyone quickly think of anything he can check or change to get him back on the road...? he does have a french speaking wife, but is not very near any population centers...

He cant see the filter but I told him to trace pipes etc.. I imagine it will be a large cannister somewhere bolted to the chassis, if it's not obvious on the engine..

thanks as usual

The joys of a modern comms age. Once the fellow would have just been stuck and unable to make it your problem.

I think you need to go on a fully employer funded rescue mission.

Has anyone put petrol in it by mistake? Or put water in the fuel filler hole instead of the water tank?

HI Adam!

:D

I have a whole other story about breaking down in France 'a la moto.. 5 days and just beer and french bread, was great :D

yes thought about water in fuel.. i guess he needs to run a can of diesel instead of the tank, to see if that helps..

will ask abuot Petrol, but doubt it,.. could be dodgy fuel though.. above test would prove that...

I guess other things to do would be

remove most of the air / side trunking to prove air is free to get in..

maybe undo an injector feed to see if fuel is getting in..

spend a bit of time with the fuel stop solenoid, maybe remove that and make sure he knows where the manual overide is..

it's tipping it down so i suggested he should sit in the camper part and drink beer until the sun arrives..

he cant find the fuel filter.. anyone got an idea? i have never seen this engine but it's pretty old and must be pretty simple.. 2.5 1990...

I made my suggestions and told him it could be worth paying the local mechanic some gauloise and some euro notes to come out and check the basics..
