Froggy,

Does this whistling sound stay the same pitch or does it vary with speed, turning etc.

Steering wheel position related "hissing" would be caused by old LHM but I don't know what can cause a whistling sound :?

Is it only heard when righthand bend but not the other way?

Maybe the auxilliary belt needs tensioning, mine squeals or whistles when doing a tight right hander.
Just a thought.

Hi Terry
I have something similar. I had brakes and discs replaced and when I reached home a right turn sounded a sharp noise. Sounded metal on metal so I took car back (carefully) but mechanic couldn't see anything - we both looked hard with car on the ramp and wheels turned full right then full left.

The noise is not anywhere near as bad now but I still get same when I just turn the wheel a small amount.

I wonder if replacing the handbrake cables (as they probably need to be changed) might make a difference - I can't think what else it can be. I am sure it is brake related and is worse when the car has been driven for a while i.e. no sound when cold.
Anyone else had something similar?
