My unloved unwanted ZX

After all the grief with getting the car through its mot and then discovering that it was jumping out of 2nd gear, I decided to polish it up and put it through the local auction complete with nearly 11 months mot
It was gleaming.

Tuesday...no bids at all.
Today...1 bid for £150, and "would I accept that?"
Told him I could probably get that from the scrapyard without having to pay commission, so NO!

Besides, the 4 decent Michelins that are on it are probably worth that.

I have to now go and collect it and bring it home again.

To actually do what with when it gets here, I do not actually now know tbh.

Suggestions anyone?

Seemingly nobody wants it anyway. Such a shame.

Can't scrap it now with such a long mot, and besides, it does actually look quite smart all cleaned up. Scrubbed up and polished up really well it did.
They knew how to paint with real proper paint in those days.

CJ, stick it on the drive with a for sale sign, a phone number and a price, like £395 and it'll sell.

I've done this a number of times with 'no hopers' and they always go at or near the asking price.

As mentioned, now has 10.5 momths mot and is gleaming

1.4 petrol, service book well stamped up too.
87k showing, and no doubt to disbelieve it either.

try sticking on the fryday add onlne as this is free to do as long as you dont place the add in the papper copy,

i personal would put it up for £400/450 OVNO,

as these do sell very well and a gear box change is a very easy job on the TU engined cars,

sorry i didnt follow the offer up originaly but i have lost the area i used to park/store cars on,

To get the biggest return on this you should dismantle it and sell the parts but as has been suggested a sticker in the window would probably get you a buyer locally,

You were lucky to get a bidder at the auction, it's not a car the trade would buy and your bidder was most likely a scrap merchant who just wanted it to crush or a boy racer who'd drive it without insurance until the cops confiscated it

If you do sell it at the gate be sure to disclose the fault or you'll have some prat wanting his money back and making your life a misery.

i find these small engined ZX's still have a market, as they are easy to work on and very economical to run,

besides there arnt to many left that the tin worm hasnt attaced,

As afrorementioned some moons ago, it did fail on the usual engine subframe 'rot spot', but that's now been sorted.
I'm half tempted to get a recon box, sell Mrs C.J.'s Getz, and stick her in it. Must be one of the last easy to work on cars ever made. No electrics...apart from the battery

, and a CARBURRETOR!!

Trouble is, Mrs C.J. loves her little Getz, doh.

Could keep it and wait for C.J.'s youngest to pass her test I suppose, hopefully in a couple of months, but being a 1.4, the insurance will probably be more obscene than usual.

A few ideas here though lads, and that is appreciated..

I was mulling over the idea of doing one of these 'banger rallies' that end up in Morroco or some other remote spot p'raps? Be a shame to put it through all that hell though, and then being forced to leave it there to be used as a chicken coop I suppose.

Colin did you not get the gearbox out of that scrapper in Anglesey? a 306 gearbox would fit surely?

No, cus I decided that flogging it through the auction would be the quickest easiest and cheapest option.

But sadly ZX's are worth nowt, the one I picked up for £200 proved that. 69k FSH and very tidy.

That was what the guy in the auction office said too.
