Xantia II Cruise control problem

The cruise control in my Xantia II 2 stopped working. It was when I was driving on the freeway. At the beginning when I activated it, it worked for couple of seconds and stopped. I checked the vacuum unit that controls the gas throttle in looks OK . The switch on the brake pedal is OK and the relay that supplies power to the cruise control ECU is clicking when I push the handle that activates the cruise control. It feels like the cruise control unit tries to control the speed and there is a leakage in the tubing but that’s a feeling and haven’t validate it yet. Does anyone know where is the cruise control ECU ( the electronics that controls the speed once the cruise control is activated ) ? Any clues on how to track down the problem

CitroJim had similar problems with cruise on his 'old V6' take a look through his blog and you get more details but from what I recall he found a split in the bellows which he repaired using a bicycle puncture repair kit. From your description of the fault I think its pretty much the same symptoms Jim was having. I'm not entirely sure on this but I think the ECU is under one of the front seats.

This is a guide to fault-finding on the Cruise Control.

It covers almost everything so should elad you to the fault...

As said, it's 99% likely a split pipe.

I found that the bellows is punctured. I replaced it with one I found in wrecked car and now the cruise control works.

Zohar, you could have repaired the bellows with a bicycle puncture repair patch. I did this on my Old V6 a year ago now and it's still good.

Check the bellows is not fouling on the wiring loom nearby. That's the normal reason they get punctured. You need to ensure the offending loom is well out of the way.

I got the bellows for free from the garage I work with. The punctured one was in a bad condition and it was a matter of a short while till it will puncture gain. I’ll take care that the bellows is not fouling on the wiring loom nearby.
