Hi folk, I'm looking for conformation of the likely causes of this problem: the estate boot wont lock (when autolocked with the electronic key lock). It does clasp shut properly, when lowered to close and likewise, open OK.

I understand that it may be due to the solonoid switch and/or a worn pivot arm coming from the same switch.. is that about right?

Check the wiring around where it goes from the main body of the car into the boot lid. I had a similar problem with one of my rear doors. Problem was caused by a break in the wiring -where it entered the door. Cannot understand why Citroen didn't use a little more cable, to allow more slack, at the point where the cable enters the door - obvious wear from opening and closing the door.

Uh huh... Thanks for that useful tip JMD.

The wiring at that place had been redone once by me due to a tail and No. plate light being out, but this symptom hadn't been a problem then... perhaps some more deterioration. I thought the same about the need for more slack.

In mine it was the solenoid. I replaced it and since then no problems
I can add a link to the thread if I find it.

PS: Tail gate plastic membrane must be well sealed, otherwise you might have water flood issues

Yes I don't mind messing about for the all-important seal with mastic since I discovered vegetable oil removes it nicely from hands etc.

Any knowledge about which colour wire in the loom to tailgate serves the solenoid? Let me know please.

I found a pic where the wire color is seen but it doesn't help much ...
There are several other thin green wires there
You need the 4 digit number code of the wires.

thanks for that pic Vertvega. I'll check out the numbers then, in preparation to having a go at it from the tailgate loom entry, and then go to the solonoid if necessary.

While you're at it, make sure the mechanism from solenoid to lock is well greased and that the lock mechanism itself is lubricated and operating freely. Mine started to be unreliable at both locking and unlocking, but some WD40 through the key 'ole solved the problem (the linkage was all greased when I had to rebuild the tailgate into a 'new' shell.
