RTOC Mallory Park

Unread post by DickieG »

A few weeks ago I popped along to Mallory Park to see a few mates thrashing their R5 GTT's around the track, one FCF forum member was enjoying himself!

The R5 below was previously raced by Rowan Atkinson in the R5 Cup series

Some were trying a little too hard!

I took those with a Canon 550D and a Canon 70-200mm f4L zoom lens, I've recently splashed out on a Canon 5D MK2 (full frame=larger sensor) so the image quality with the 5D is improved over the 550D :D

The R5 GTT boys are going to Santa Pod on Friday, one of them has 350bhp at the wheels and another IIRC has 500ish

A Canon-man then! I'm Nikon myself...!
TBH, there's not too much difference between them and as proved above, you can get some very nice pictures with Canon.

I used to be Canon though, in the shape of the 500D but ended up selling it all and getting my D90.

5D MK2 is a very nice camera, and along with the 'L' lens that's a very nice combination indeed! It's all normally to do with the lens, and the L lenses are great. 8-)

Looking at buying the Sigma 10-20mm for my next lens...

Ah you're going very wide with that choice, ideal for landscapes.

I work on the principle that if you miss information at the first stage its lost forever so the lens is ultra important and with a full frame sensor you're giving yourself the best chance of getting tack sharp images. My other lenses are a 400 f5.6L, a 24-70 f2.8L and a 17-55 f2.8 EFS (for the 550D).

If you're into flash photography I've just read a brilliant book on the subject which gives you all the tricks of the trade on how to get brilliant shots, whilst its focused towards Canon the principles are applicable to all makes. Take a look at the reviews on Amazon and you get an idea of how good the book is, worth every penny from me as it's improved my understanding and techniques already. The trouble is its now caused me to buy another Speedlite 580 EX11, this photography lark can get expensive when you really get into it!

Ideal for landscapes and also for some interesting car shots...you can get some very nice interior shots too. The extra wideness will be handy as I do quite a bit of photography when going to Classic Car Auctions and when they're packed closely in it is sometimes a bit difficult with 18mm!

Looks like a good book - and you're right...photography can, and will get very expenisve. A friend who is well into his photography has got a grand total of twelve lenses and four cameras!

I much prefer Canon to Nikon.
Digital Photo magazine and it's sister publication Practical Photography are great reads too, well worth an xmas pressie (especially as if you time it right you get decent gifts with it).

Remove everything from your dining room and turn it into a studio :)

Well I've done it! :D
Got it today and got a good deal!
A highly recommended place called the "London Camera Exchange" was the cheapest I could find after looking around with their new f/4.5-5.6 which was £429 and f/3.5 was £499.

They also had a pre-owned 70-300mm Sigma too that looked tempting and was in fine condition and was missing a telephoto of any sorts after changing from Canon.

I had a look and in the end managed to get the deal of the Sigma 10-20mm f4.5-5.6, Sigma 70-300mm and a 77mm Filter for 10-20mm for a grand total of £490 - really pleased with that! :D

That sounds like a good deal, 77mm filters are expensive the ones I have generally retail @ £100 each but Amazon offered a great deal for substantially less than that at the time I bought them.

Have you looked on this great photographic equipment price website?
