C5 noisy front suspension

Post by waynedance »

Ok got a 2.2 HDi done 70k on a 53 plate.
got a noise on the front at law speeds which sounds like it comes from the drivers side. The noise is a sort of rumble like something is vibrating. Can make it do it loudly if I labour the engine, all suspension seems fine new lower arms last week and drop links last year.

Tried removing undershield putting foam in various places but still vibrating noise. oh and recent new tyres.

please please help.

Ready for scrapping the car the front end sounds. terrible at slow speeds, at my wits end.

Is there anything. at the top of the strut. mount that causes play?

Does it go away if you pull the handbrake on?

Some Xantias with larger brakes suffered this - not sure if it carried over into the C5, but it's worth a punt!

Tried pulling the handbrake on and it is the same.

Only really bad at low speeds, does with clutch held in and in neutral.

Want to love the car but it is really doing my head in, work at a garage and the MOT tester can not find any play in anything.

Check the heat shields (may be loose or vibrating) from the manifold back towards the end of the exhaust.
