After almost two years of totally trouble free motoring, something has broken today.
Seemed to have been sounding a little louder over the past couple of days, but just went up the motorway a couple of junctions and I think that finished it off.
Do you think it could be repaired/welded as it looks a clean "break", or are the centre boxs cheap enough new.
Cheers

The metal around the area of the break will be very thin and corroded, welding will probably not be successful or last very long.
A new section isn't that expensive from a factor or similar, don't bother with a dealer, you'll scare yourself !

Dave, presuming this is the 1.9TD, that looks like the cat has had its 9th life.
Take advantage of the death of it and get rid of it. Replace it with a straight-through pipe.
You'll gain a little power and economy as a result.

Just gone through its MOT, so would not be an issue for a while. But there are any emmissions regs or noise regs that require the cat to be in place.
Looks like it might be a free fix then, pay someone to fit the straight through pipe, and then scrap the cat and hopefully get my money back.
Xantia free motoring strikes again.....
Cheers

On a diesel Dave, none whatsoever Cats are not a legal requirement on diesels and are not tested during an MOT. Only smoke density is checked and that's not influenced by the cat at all.gadgetgricey wrote: Just gone through its MOT, so would not be an issue for a while. Cats on a diesel do soot up over time and having a straight-through pipe will aid its breathing. Yours was bound to be a bit restrictive after all these years.
Weighing in the old cat is a great way to offset the cost!!!

http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/pages/ex ... del=Xantia
this pipe fits hatch and estates instead of the cat,
