Working on a "Conversion"

Post by addo »

The workshop lad - my last contract being effectively completed, I have reverted to part time grease monkey status - is learning to drive.

Our current system requires 120 hours of supervised driving (minimum) before a test is allowed. Due to his home situation, our fellow's had difficulty getting anyone help him out with this. So, today we went to drop some excess Peugeot parts to a specialist out of town.

Most of his experience so far has been on a Hyundai Excel, so moving to the Xantia (with a payload and obscured rearview mirror) was a fair step up in pilot responsibility. He drove a total of 120km in just over two hours, and seemed to enjoy the car.

Traditional Citroens are quite forgiving to drive, so this is probably good for building a little confidence in the early stages. Either way, it was his first outing on major roads and with higher speed limits than suburbia - he did quite well and the number of anxious moments was small (and over fairly minor concerns, too).

If the process continues, I could readliy see him with a Xantia or 306; both are cheap enough now.

Did that in Sydney for a newly arrived kiwi girl who wasn’t going to be able to clock up the hours.
We mostly drove to work and back, less than two hours per day.
I filled and signed the book, there’s been no inquisition and she got her licence.
