Peugeot Audio Upgrade

Post by johnway »

Hello,
My 406 has the factory fitted radio/cassette with 6CD changer and JBL amp - can't get the radio head to go to CD mode for some reason (tried stalk switch, head switch, re-loading CD deck etc) so unless I have missed something I may need to upgrade the system. The CD deck appears to load the discs then nothing. I particularly like DAB radio & CD's and do not have cassettes or 8-tracks left! Has anyone out there upgraded theirs & can pass on some tips?

Many thanks,
John.

Double check you have loaded the CDs correctly.

It is counter-intuitive in that the CDs appear to load the wrong way up.

Each one slots into its tray with the label side DOWN. Logic says they should be up, but this is Peugeot

Thanks - I will try them the other way around, even though I did load them as per the cartridge - you never know !!

John, I brought an upgrade 6 disc changer for my 406.. (from ebay)

it is a Sony model, should work with the original headunit.. and will play MP3 cd's.. so instead of a handful of songs per cd, it's more like 150 (x6)

obviously you need your audio to be digital first..

The unit didn't cost much £, and I have still to fit it.. I also needed to buy a 'connects 2' box..

anyway, the upshot of all of this is I may have my original CD changer and shouldn't need it....

Hello John,
Thanks for your response and info. Upgrading to an MP3 disc player sounds a great idea - especially to Sony which I am a fan of. I attempted a similar upgrade on my C5 with a Sony 6 disc CD player with a connects 2 box with great success. As for the Peugeot, I noticed that the cable to the player was not installed correctly so had obviously been disconnected by a previous owner - ominous. My next attack will be to remove the head unit and test for continuity of all the CD player wiring - you never know it might be a simple break which is causing the problem. May I ask you a favour please when you have the time to do the following? I would like to know if your radio head switches to CD mode even if the CD player cartridge is empty and if an error message is displayed if a CD has been loaded the wrong way round. My problem seems to be either that the head unit does not recognise the player or is simply unable to switch to CD player mode. I do not know if the CD player is code matched to the head unit or not so may try the player on another working uncoded radio I have with CD input to try to pinpoint the problem to one unit or the other. I am not in a position to buy another CD player just yet but thanks for letting me know you have one available - hopefully my checks/problem solving will give me a clearer direction of which course of action is required.

All the best,
John.

hi John, I may get to visit the car over the weekend... will let you know..

for certain, any (factory) changer will work with the head unit.. i.e. they are not coded... I changed mine over a year ago as my original changer was broken..

Hi John,
Well that is one problem I do not have to worry about then, thank you. Just finished the C5 brakes so next up is the Peugeot stereo. Yes please do keep me posted & if I find out what the problem is with mine I will let you know.

All the best,
John.

Hello,
I have removed the head unit and CD player to check continuity of all wiring - all are A1 so the mystery thickens. I am wondering if I am alone with an estate that has been fitted with radio/cassette, JBL amp and Clarion 6xCD player? Might be as originally supplied by the factory but there again ??? I would love to get my hands on a wiring diagram for this little bundle.

All the best,
John.

Further developments, but no nearer to the solution. Firstly I sent my radio head unit & CD auto changer to Clarion for testing : no problems were found. Secondly I picked up another Clarion CD auto changer & tried that but again the radio head unit did not recognise it. Thirdly I found that the multi display unit on my car was not the original part but have been assured by a Pug specialist that this cannot be the problem. I'm stumped. Maybe the BSI needs resetting? If so I believe only Peugeot can do this, but at what cost and would this be the guaranteed fix I wonder? Can anyone help/advise with this please?

Regards,
John.

A little closer to getting CD player working

Post by johnway »

Hi again,
Been a while but the Pug has just come on the road and I am interested again in solving the CD player issue. I had a diagnostic check done on the radio system and the car recognises the CD player - even told me that there were two CDs in it. A status of ATT (whatever that is) showed up with error Communication with multifunction display. So, it appears that Clarion were right all along and it is the MFD unit at the root of the problem. Now I have contacted Peugeot and they tell me that the original MFD part no. for my car is 6155Q8. This no. does not appear on the identification label on the Sagem units - most helpful..not!! I have found two Sagem part nos. 9644230277 A00 and 9644230277 B01 listed as 6155Q8 so the question now is : what is the difference between them? Perhaps one is for Trip computer/Sat Nav when fitted? If so which one? I have emailed Sagem for info. Hopefully I will be further enlightened and will be able to pass on results later. One other issue found the other night : the Clarion RM2 radio head unit does not light up when car lights switched on - ideas welcome (yes I have already thought of ditching it!!).
All the best,
Regards,
John.

Re: Peugeot Audio Upgrade

Fixed !!!!!! I had a Peugeot specialist look at the car : turns out that the originally replaced multi-function display unit had not been configured to the BSI. My attempts by changing this to one of the original part no. and replacing the CD autochanger were in vain, in fact the situation was worse as the steering wheel stalk controls no longer worked. Anyway thanks to Peter (Letraction) from Basildon for analyzing and remedying the problem by reconfiguring all units to the BSI. CD autochanger and stalk controls working.....yippeeeee!!! Radio light up test tonight.........fingers crossed!! Spare MFDU & CD autochanger of interest to anyone??

It's easy when you know how and have the right gear isn't it?
All the best,
John.

John
anyone know if this will work on my 607?
I think that the CD changer is the same as a 406. However my 607 has the built in satnav and I think that the satnav unit connects to the head unit through the CD changer.
what's the Sony part number?
