Xantia bleed screw

Hi, Iam trying to find the bleed screw on the thermostat housing, but can"t see one . ( should there be one ? ) I have found the bleed screw on the heater hose . Maybe there is only one on a Xantia ? My Z.X. has two though . any thoughts cheers Terry .

As far as I know, there isn't one on XUDT engines with the thermostat under the fuel filter. I've never had any problem bleeding all the air via the bleed screw at the other end of the engine. A bit of percy-what's-it is needed when the cooling system has been drained because the water used to make up the coolant will be full of dissolved air and it needs heating to drive it out - just like a kettle fizzes and 'sings' before it boils.

I read somewhere that when you change your coolant, don"t use tap water , use mineral water, it"s better ! any truth in this ? cheers Terry.

Deionised (distilled) water supposedly best as it has no contaminants like tap water - calcium salts are an unwelcome addition to the cooling system.

My dad always boiled the water first which helps. Binds the calcium salts.

I wonder though if the additives in antifreeze don't bind these salts and prevent them from doing harm.
Perhaps the domain of the more expensive antifreeze and of the Forte Cooling System Additive.
