just an idea for now, but would it fail an mot on emissions as its suposed to be newer?

Hmm, not entirely sure on the emissions point but IIRC whatever is the older element i.e. engine or body the older rules apply, but don't quote me on that.

If we're talking Xantias, then it wouldn't make a difference as both just undergo a smoke test.

That's potentially the problem, HDi's being later = more efficient = less smoke

maybe if you inform BIG BROTHER (DVLA) as then it would be on the V5C (reg document ), then it might be accepted at the MOT as an XUD,

It would be fine as both Vehicles are too old to come under the newer derv emmissions test if we are talking Xantias but, as said above, its the shell of the car that governs what rules apply, technicaly if you swap an engine, even for the same engine you have to have an engineers report, inform the dvla and your insurance company..........technicaly.

but i cant see why it wouldnt pass the test anyway. Are you thinking of putting an XUD into a later shell then to run veg? might be easier just to buy another car.
