No spannering for me.

Post by lexi »

Ah well..........it had to happen eventually.

After 40 years of roofing slating and steeplejacking I came off at a fair rate of knots fracturing my ankle and fibula..............bloody ouch

Two ops in last two weeks and another pending. 3 months in plaster with no weight on left leg. I feel lucky. Why?.

Firstly: In the hospital trauma wards I was bedded next to poor souls who were much worse off than me.

Secondly: Had I landed on anything but my feet it may have been so much more damaging.

Good luck on your recovery, I've been in a very dire situation in hospital and know just how it feels to wonder whether I will get out without wearing a wooden overcoat. It don't half help you focus on what's important in life and make the most of each day thereafter, enjoy life and as long as you've got your heath you're the richest person on earth!! :D :D :D

A good result, all things considered. Slaters here are a rare breed, and a decent one can make £600+ per day on the roof.

A nasty accident that fortunately wasn't a lot worse.

Hope you make a rapid and complete recovery.

Very sorry about the accident, Lexi. It's amazing to hear some of the stories of people falling off roofs/scaffolding, and surviving. Not saying they're up and busy again immediately, but to have survived the fall in the first place is amazing. You're one of the lucky ones. Hope you don't get too fed up/bored in convalescing.

Yes, seeing some things in life, or others misfortunes, can make one appreciate just being normal, or to have survived an accident. Gives a very different perspective on life. There's always someone worse off, and that's only of those you see or hear about.

Wishing you a good & speedy recovery

Thanks guys.

Quite a few patients I met had bad accidents of similar type with the same so called dangerous jobs...............BUT the amount of guys who had bad fractures doing things like going a bike or sorting something round the house was amazing

Being out for a bit is the main thing. You could not knit bones together on the food they serve in NHS Hospitals. The Govt. preaches diet yet spend nowt per day on patient food.
