C5 Fuel Flap

Has anyone come across the fuel filler flap that protects the filler cap springing out? The spring beneath the rubber cover seems to stay in place for a second before popping out and pushing the flap out. Most annoying!

Perhaps there is a seized locking pin? I can't even see how to get to the assembly. From behind by removing the boot trim I suppose (grrrrr)

Found a plastic spring/toggle switch mechanism that kept popping out. Easily serviceable from the front after having removed a protective rubber shroud. Not worth a repair so will try to get a replacement tomorrow P/N 00006554GS

I have the opposite problem on the C5 I'm working on, the flap won't open.

Can you push it from the hinge side or is it locked? I can't see how the locking mechanism works on mine

I gave it a hefty slap and it came open, seems to work ok now, must have been just stuck from lack of use. G.

Earlier C5s, to around 2003-ish, have a locking fuel door which locks with the central locking. There is a pin which slides out to lock the door, this can stick in the open or closed position. Its a good idea to lubricate it on a service.

Later C5s after around 2003 have a fuel door which you have to push and it then clicks into place in a spring loaded clip, push it again and the door pops open. The fuel cap itself is opened with the key on these later cars and the door does not lock with the central locking.

That explains it (very clear too). Cheers. I was worried mine just didn't work but I have the later model reliant on locking cap rather than flap. Going to pick my spring switch up tomorrow
