hi all,
I have a 94 1.9 td xantia like to "tick" every five seconds. In an effort to bring the ticking back into line I've changed The accumalator sphere, flushed and cleaned, new regulator and a new FDV because the steering didn't like to be powered.
No use.
In an effort to isolate the internal leak I lowered her to the ground and still she ticked on.
Am I right to think that this is the brake valve?
any other tests I could do?
She rises fast and sinks pretty well fast to.
might have to put the wife on the streets to pay for it all.....
thanx in advance.
The 5 second tick.....

Mine has the save problem and I bought a brake valve and had murder fitting it and it made not a jot of difference. The brake valves are of an inherantly simple design and unless the LHM was full of grit or metal and run for ages I can't see how it would wear significantly.
I've written it off as a bad job now, there's obviously something in the hydraulic system thats worn but mine drives ok. I find I can stop the ticking by turning the steering wheel a bit if I find it embarassing. The value of early Xantia's is so low its just not worth spending a fortune on the hydraulics when you can go out and pick another one up for under a grand that will have the revised hydraulic system without the FDV and a more reliable pump.

As for the other lady in your life :
- try test the return flow from the brake (doseur) valve - that would tell you.
If no obvious disastrous flow - then the PR may well be suspected.
How are you sure the new acc sphere is good ?
