One for the Foreigners - Cheaper Discs

Post by addo »

I'm not sure whether it will fall into the "Recommended Garages & Services" Forum or that of "Handy Hints and Tips" but...

Just closed a sale with Fleabay vendor who did the right thing on overseas carriage. Excluding discs themselves, first set of rotors £39.95 courier airfreight; all subsequent sets £5.95 which is excellent.

Given that vented discs weigh about 16-18kg a pair, they are always one of the dearer items to bring in privately - it often leaves us stuck with high local prices.

When the goods have arrived all present and correct, I'll nominate the business by name. It should be good for not only the Horsetrailians, but also Kiwis and our few Malaysian members...

Good stuff Adam.
Are they 'named' discs? or is there a choice?

Hi Steve, the discs are Brembo - who, so far as I can determine, are/were OEM suppliers for PSA.

It's a large online company supplying but not one of the two we often speak of here*. I had to phone and walk the staff through upholding their combined freight offers, but that was 'bout as hard as it got.

Usually what happens with OS sales is they book you at the VAT inclusive price then mark the docket as 0% taxed - it's a 25% profit bonus to the vendor, which in this case offsets their freight costs...

I've spent about £1500 the last four weeks on parts from the UK and Europe. There's just nothing competitive locally other than Korean made calcium batteries. Actually - not quite true; I have bought a set of Taiwanese Xantia balljoints to evaluate.

* Sad in a way; I'd rather contribute to Vince's wage by ordering direct from the Liverpool branch but his employers have policies (and a website) that force me elsewhere.

So far, seems OK - I've received a Fedex number that shows a couple of packages are on their way. ETA is this Friday; I'm keen as mustard.

Discs arrived; boxes slightly bruised but all present and correct with contents just fine.

Will do, Steve.

John - I'm just waiting to see the freight prices hurriedly revised... Can't see how they can make a quid on such rates. Got another likely one for you in the coming week anyhow - 00007452G3 - long but lightweight.
