Laguna II tailgate won't open

Unread post by bxzx16v »

Got an intermittent problem on my wifes laguna II estate were the tailgate won't open or the glass window section either , tried taking the button out and cleaning it up but no luck , the contacts do look quite corroded though , when the car is locked you can hear a high pitched beep from the nearside rear area where the alarm box is located then after a while it stops , any ideas , my moneys on the switch but could it be anything else ? Thanks ,

Normally I would suggest a failing boot catch (it gave up on my Mégane), but as the glass section doesn't respond either it sounds more like the car is either "forgetting" to unlock the boot, or there is a loose connection or worn wire somewhere. I would check where the wires go from the boot into the car for any damage.

Managed to sort the boot lock , I noticed when the car was locked the light in the load area wasn't going out so I took out the lamp holder and unplugged it and would you believe it the boot opens and so does the tailgate glass , reconnected the light and everythings working fine now

This very same fault is back , before Christmas I fitted a new tailgate release button to the tailgate as the old one was faulty/corroded , this helped for a day or two now the tailgate refuses to unlock and the high pitch beeping is back, also the interior light in the boot will not go out so I have had to remove that . It seems there's no power going to the tailgate release button or the glass release button , does anyone have any ideas as this is starting to p**s me off , thanks

Mark Is the display on your dash showing the boot as open all the time? It sounds like the car thinks the boot is open. The high pitch noise also makes me think this, my Mégane does it if you lock it with the bonnet open.

Yes Luke the dash display is indicating that the tailgate is open even though it's not , trying to keep the spending on it to a minimum as it may be going soon

Got to the bottom of the tailgate refusing to open , it was down to a dodgy boot catch which was very damp and the solenoid in the latch past it's best . Ordered one today from the dealer so this should cure it when fitted , I'll post progress as & when
