c5 2.0 hdi does the egr valve give much trouble?

Post by mrlogik »

Hi all ive had an ongoing fault with my 2001 c5 hdi where it has suffered from poor performance and used maf after maf [genuine ones],at its last fault reading an egr fault showed up.
Would a bad egr valve ruin my mafs? After clearing all codes it did the usual and went back into limp mode after a while,my local garage said citroen would sort it by there usual trick of fitting a new ecu!! im kinda resigning and putting it on gumtree as a spares or repair for £500 with t n t.

No a faulty EGR won't ruin your MAF, however you may confuse the symptoms of a stuck egr with MAF failure although a Lexia would quickly show where the problem lay.

Very ofter an earthing problem on the MAF. Run a new earth wire from the body or the battery negative to the MAF. Don't expect a dealer to do something cheap and simple. On the 2001 model you can usually blank off the EGR and no fault code shows. On 2002 models with the 16 valve engine this usually brings on a fault code which usually points to tha MAF. Havn't come across a faulty EGR on a mk1 C5 but the above applies to Expert, Dispatch, Scudo, Grand Vitara etc.

I'd agree with that, it wont ruin the MAF. The sole purpose of the MAF on this engine/injection system is to monitor the operation of the EGR valve as its fully mechanical with no feedback sensor on it. Which means a faulty EGR valve is always likely to throw up a MAF fault of some description. If it were mine i'd blank it off first & see how that goes.

I suggest that you blank of the EGR before worrying about the wiring in my experience the wiring on the C5 is generally quite solid.

I’m more stingy than that. Image
I used a foil box of dog food that a crow had dumped into our garden from the neighbours’ rubbish bin.
The ECU found out and the message was soon back. ](*,)

Surprised!

Im surprised at that clogzz as the tin of dog food would have cost more than the blanking plate had you bought it legitimately and produced a receipt to your ecu it may have been more accepting!
