Xantia steering ?
Hi, my 1997 Xantia td, running from the steering coupling to the front offside wheel, there is a metal rod with a rubber gaiter inthe middle . this rubber gaiter is split in half ! Do I need to replace the whole thing ( whatever it"s called ) or just the rubber gaiter ? cheers Terry ,

Just the gaiter... I believe you're referring to the steering rack gaiter. If so....
It's a fun job... A bit like wrestling with a hyperactive eel
Basically, remove the track rod end at the hub, slide off the remains of the gaiter, slide the new one on after greasing it, pop it on the end of the rack and secure with a cable-tie..
Getting in onto the rack end is a game....
Oh and the offside is the 'easy' side. the nearside is just a tad trickier...

TBH the offside is a bit of a game too! I needed SuperJim and his magic hands to do it
