Check your brake pedal!

Post by R9UKE »

As a regular viewer of Watchdog I was quite amused by the recent story of the Citroen C3 Picasso.

The adaptation from LHD to RHD has left the ability for the passenger to press the brake pedal from the passenger side.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13446522

In this weeks edition it was found that the C3 and C4 are also affected.

In addition, the Peugeot 206 and 307, and the Renault Scénic and Espace.

Pretty scary if you own one of those cars, right?

Well I just took a seat in the passenger side of the Meggy. Stuck my foot in the same place as the C3 Picasso passengers did and guess what - I could push the brake pedal RIGHT down. It's a really odd sight watching the pedal drop by itself.

I would advise all you guys to check your otherwise excellent french cars for this pretty poor flaw and report to Watchdog. Citroen have already issued a recall on the C3 Picasso, and I think Renault are about to with the Mégane.

And don't forget to report back here! :D

There's no need to do this on a Xantia. On the RHD design the Dosuer valve (master cylinder analogue) is moved to the driver's side properly.

All there is in the passengers footwell is a load of wiring...

Sadly the Xantia's replacement the Citroen C5 (complete with oleopneumatic suspension) has these linkages. I haven't tested whether I can operate the brake from the passenger seat yet...

operate the brake from the passenger seat
It’s not simple on the C5.
It would need a firm push through the lamp in the felt cover.

It would be a duel driving with this fault between the passenger, and the driver, more so if the passenger is stamping their feet, due to being in a bad mood, or to the music they are listening to.

This also effects the Puegeot 206? Can anyone tell me any more information on this, is it all 206's? My girlfriend has a 206 and I dont want her to be driving an unsafe car!

just look under the glove box to see if the remote brake pedel linkage is under there,

i thought the 206 was similar to the likes of the AX/SAXO and this linkage was in the engine bay,
