c5 problems

Post by citroen7 »

my son decieded to move the car to wash it,in doing so he stalled it 3 times now it will not start :x The remote will now not work but you can lock the car with the key,put the key in the ignition and the indicators start to flash the centre screen does not light up but the warning lights all come on and the engine will turn over but wont start.so has anyone any idea as to what has happened before i have to spend a fortune calling someone out?

Some questions.

Which model? Diesel or petrol? How old is the car? How old is the battery? When you say stalled, did the car actually start and run?

It maybe the immobilizer.

Try disconnecting the battery. Leave disconnected for 30 seconds then re connect.

Wait 1 minute before trying to start the engine.

See if this resets everything.

already tried that but did it again but still no joy
so as it stands you can unlock the car using the key and not the remote buttons as you open the door the hazard lights stat flashing but quicker that if you had operated the hazard button put key in ignition dash lights up and engine will crank over but just will not start.
i am pretty sure it is something to do with the immobiliser but just how the hell do you reset it?
Ihave someone bringing me the spare key shortly and will try that, when i rang the main dealer they told me there was no battery in the remote well there bloody well is :x
So any further clues chaps?

my first impression here is the bsi not being "synced" with the key so it thinks its being nicked.... hopefully the spare key will resolve

Spoke to a guy i know from "the local" who has just taken over as service manager at a citroen/honda dealaship and he seems to thinkthat it is a control unit in the fuse box

First thing that springs to mind when I read that is that there is water somewhere that it shouldnt be. a bit over the top with the hose maybe ? There is a big main grommet on the passanger side in the scuttle area that leads into the BSI which is the control unit the guy was talking about, these units very rarley fail unless there is something like water ingress or human error like connecting jump leads the wrong way around. If this was imobiliser related you would have a message on the dash telling you or the little key light on the dash flashing, also the imobiliser would not make the hazzards flash.

just to up date everybody it was indeed the bsi unit it had corrosion on its terminals the garage removed it cleaned up the terminals and all is now well :D

Thanks for letting us know,

Corrosion is caused by damp so was the hose incident with your son a complete coincidence or had it, perhaps, caused the corrosion to tip over the edge?

Did the garage mention anything about the big grommet that wheeler referred to? Was it not seated properly and had been allowing the ingress of water?
