Xantia Flickering Warning Lights

Unread post by Goughy »

'97 Xantia 1.8 SX 16v
Can anyone help me out with this one...
All the red warning lights on the lower left-hand-side of the intrument panel (brake, ignition, oil and temperature) flicker when the engine is idling.
It sometimes stalls particularly when the engine is cold which is a bit scarey as the power steering and assisted brakes stop functioning but otherwise isn't too much of a problem.
Any suggesions of a cure would be really appreciated

It's probably low oil pressure, or a duff reading from the sensor, as the oil pressure switch is used at start up to test all the other lights on the dash. What oil have you got in it, and is the level OK? Could be that if it is stalling, then the idle speed has gone too low (idle speed valve maybe?).

Thanks Richard
I changed the oil about 3 months ago. Can't recall the exact spec, but was a good quality one. I do know that the compression is good and the level is O.K. however.
Would cleaning the sensor help?
Also, is the idle speed valve adjustable?
