Inexplicably Tempted

Unread post by addo »

Volvo 850 Estate, bypassed matrix and duff aircon. 2.4 20V on 211K (170K of yours) and the auto has lost reverse. White with black stripes (specific local edition; rare) and black leather with faux wood inside. Currently registered etc for about a month...

Asking $250 plus 48 beers. Hey, it's a wagon with straight body and a towbar.

I'm not sure! Just that I have a fetish for white station wagons with mod cons and a little poke. Shame it's not a turbo.

Laughed at Volvo owners complaining how hard the matrix is to change - it's nothing on a Xantia.

Well there are not so good Volvos which are just a bit like a tank, but some of the later ones I really like. The 850 are nice cars in my opinion, breaking away from the old tank like Volvos like the 240 but before the V70 came out.

Something like this addo?

This would make a good 'sleeper'

C-mad, if you haven't driven a bog-stock 240, run out and do it now.

They make you smile; quite boingy, wallowy cars that just do their own thing in their own time.

I love Volvos - Buy it!!

Yet to experience a 240 or 850. But I've had a 440, 740 and 940 over the past year. All great for different things, and all laughed at hysterically by my uni mates.

We had a Clio Auto. in work with VERY little reverse left. It was no problem, nothing a push couldn't sort out in a sticky situation, although the Volvo is a bit more of a beast :D
French is best.

Ive had a very brief go in a ropey 240 estate, it kind of did exactly what you described  Still quite a few about actually.

Haha, D5! 8-)

A T6 would be awesome though, no one would expect a big Volvo saloon to have performance, a good Q-car.

We had a 240 in Saudi in the early 80's after the Blazer dad had (yellow and white, called Daisy of course).
It was pretty reliable, Dad even used it to pull an Isuzu Trooper out of some sand.
I think the only time we had a problem was on the way to the beach where dad pulled over to use a sand dune (and ended up streaking across the desert after his trunks as they blew away), by the time he got back to the car it wouldn't start. Something in the carb had dried out, so while we and mum were illegally driven on to the beach by one of Dad's colleages, the others managed to lube it using the dipstick and get the car going again.
After that we had a Renault 9, which dad got run over in by a dumper truck on christmas day.

Well, it bloomin' doesn't start. :x

Some aftermarket alarm has chucked a hissy fit after the battery died and no dash lights, no tachymetric signal, not many acc's working.

Don't suppose anyone here has the wiring diagrams for a '94 850 break in 2.4 petrol auto guise? I want to work out what to excise.

Cheers, Adam.
