XM PRV V6 Engine Management Light

Post by DHallworth »

I've finally finished changing the coolant pipes that run through the middle of the Vee but have now got a slightly different problem...

My engine management light is on permanently and when scanned with the Lexia I'm getting the following error:

"Throttle potentiometer short circuit to negative"

I've checked the resistance with the multi metre and also checked the resistance again the same sensor on my other 24v and they are almost the same.

I've cleaned the sensor and cleaned the plug but am still getting the error.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Thanks

David.

damaged loom?

i don't know the prv engine at all but if the sensor shows up as ok then the problem must be between the loom and ecu. can you check on the other engine and find out the pinout on the ecu and check what you see on each ecu pin and compare that to the problem engine

If you have tested the throttle pot resistance over its range and it checks out ok compared to a spare then the loom is damaged somewhere, even more likely since you have been playing with it recently.

The loom was my initial thought as well but was hoping that someone might be able to suggest something else!

Oh well, time to try and find a wiring diagram!

Check the voltages on the wires (especially if you have a good car to compare), it should give you some more information.

yes if its earthing then disconnect the ecu for safety and check for a short between the pot pins and earth while wiggling the loom, then see if the same wires earth on the other V6.

Good luck
