Post by g_feb »

Hi ,
My query here is that when i accelerate my car it is not going over 5000 rpm. what can the reason be? I have recently got its oil with air and oil filter replaced.

Thanks for any help.

Yep, a little over 5,000 rpm is about as far as it goes.
Not much happens up there either.

It is annoying that Citroen cut costs by using the same rev counter for petrol and diesel. Confused me the first time I had diesel.

Along with Fiat and a few other cheaper brands.

You'd have thought they'd move the red line down a bit or SOMETHING!

But no, nothing happens anywhere near 5,000rpm in a HDi... between 3-4k RPM is when it starts running out of puff. Only time mine used to get that high was either in 1st gear where it'd make a difference or when giving it a blast to clear the crap out.

Car not going over 5000 rpm when accelerate .........

I took the car to my friend who work at a local garage and he thinks that there may be some problem with the card( I don't remember that card's name, something like vcard) which is weak now and its probably not providing enough power to the turbo and hence turbo goes weak?
Is that right?

No it is not meant to go over 5000rpm.

Diesel engines do not rev as high as petrol engines.
Anything over 5000rpm will cause engine damage so they cut off the power to prevent the damage.
If your friend who works at a garage does not know this then he should not be touching your car, or anyone's car for that matter!

not even if I blast to clear the crap out.?

My other car (Audi A3 1.9 tdi) is different then as it goes over 5000rpm easily when I accelerate.

Thanks for the information though.

PSA advise a run at 4,000 revs for 20 mins to clear crap out/regenerate the FAP.

Without FAP then a good swift blast down a deserted motorway will do the trick.
I generally do a barely legal trip to Scotch Corner - around 80 miles in total, the night before the MOT.
