Synergie gear knob

Hi - I need to replace the gear knob on my '96 1.9td Synergie as it has split and fallen apart. Will a 'universal' gear knob do the job or do I need to get a specific one. There are plenty on ebay claiming to be a universal fitment,but I've heard that before!!. Thanks.

the universal type usualy have 3 little grub screws that tighten with a small allen key so yes they would fit but probably look a bit naff so maybe finding a genuine replacement would be better.
