Citroen zx headlights

Post by timbo2410 »

Hi all, an emergency has arisen as I'm off to France very soon. My drivers side low beam wasn't working the other day (high beam and parking were). I just lifted the bonnet and went to remove the globe and the unit that plugs into the headlight crumbled in my hands along with an inch of the wire. It is almost the same for the parking and high beam plugs ... does anybody know where I can source these from? I tried the breakers yards nearby and they don't have any Zx's at all to snip some connections off ... anybody got any of these connectors floating around that they don't want???

Is it the headlight bulb plug itself ?

Most cars you can borrow these from, ultimately will be a two pin or a three pin arrangement.

In an emergency, remove the wires one at a time and fit (insulated!, must use fully insulated!) crimp on spade terminals. These will fit the bulb. Do one wire at a time so you do not mix them up.
Andy.

The normal spade fittings won't come close to fitting. It's one of those "double" spade "blocks" that are a custom fitting and are only a quarter of the width of a normal spade terminal. This plugs into the bulb holder that in turn fits into the rear of the headlamp.

Are they double parabolic headlights (ie: two bulbs) ?

Some 306's may provide the connector too if the breaker does not have any ZX's, they are more or less the same car after all. :)

there are the three bulbs altogether ... low beam (on the outside), side lights (in the middle) and high beam (towards the centre of the car). I never thought to check for the 306 .. that's another avenue I can take. I'll head back down tomorrow and check ... thanks for the info :D

Any car in the scrappies that has got the same headlamp bulb will yield a suitable fitting - the bulbs are standard, so the fittings must be too.

I shall go down and have another look around the breakers yard tomorrow ... surely this can't be "that" difficult

no joy, no Zx's or Ax's around and the Peurgot (and all other Citroens of that age) have nothing similar ... totally different fitting ... even though the headlights were very similar, they have different plugs .... if anybody has one spare (with at least 3 incehs of wire) there's a tenner in it for you :D

the motor factors sell a repair kit for the three pin plug conector's, so i would think they do one for the two pin version as well,

still no joy. Called up all the local motorfactors and they don't sell a replacement plug by itself, it would be a complete wiring loom ... they haven't heard of a repair kit either ... tried the Citroen dealers and they said the same thing ...

Surely you can just visit the scrapyard and find something with the same headlight plug type and cut a length of cable off ? :)

You would think it would be easy wouldn't you ... but no .... tried Citroen AX, Peurgots and the like but no plug is the same ... went through all sorts of cars and models but no it "HAS" to be dificult ... remeber that this isn't a standard fitting it's part of the Citroen wiring loom ... and as such it's not generic .... I need an original part ...

i know the motor factors sell the three pin plug in kit form specificly for head lamps, so im supprised they havent got the two??? pin plug kits,

if this realy is the case then buy a packet of the larger lucar (spade) crimp on terminals with the yellow sleave's,

like the 10mm type in the link below

http://www.autoelectrics.net/yellow_auto_terminals.html

or here is an ebay item No. for a H7 plug repair kit
