Xantia: Fitting Saloon rear struts in Estate

I'm aware of the differences in bore.

For the shorter term, what kind of behaviour would people expect? Would it bottom out a lot?

Just for part of the Hydractive swap, I am looking at a full transition from the guts of one subframe to the other; then the estate strut cylinders would need machining for the larger feed pipes before reinstallation.

Adam,

Just thought you'd like to know that drilling and tapping out a 3.5mm strut non hydractive to make INTO a hydractive stut DOES work... Ive seen it done on a front strut... I cannot remember the size of drill or tap though.. being all alloy they drill out nicely..

Thanks for confirming it - seemed a straightforward enough operation but hadn't heard prior to your comments, of this being done. Does anyone know if Pleiades Martin can do this?

It puzzles me why they didn't just make them all the large size - you'd think a zinc-plated steel adaptor to throttle down for smaller pipes, would be cheaper than having different strut sets on the shelves...

yes it is possible, i'm having 2 done in the next month or so.

and they're french, the illogical is logical to them

Logical vs illogical? I'm not sure it's cultural - more like engineers vs beancounters ending in a mutual stalemate.

Is Martin re-doing your struts?

it won't be martin specifically but as i understand it there is a an engineering place a few units down that can and have done it before.
