BLOODY CITROEN DEALERSHIP!!!!!!!

Post by brmartyn »

Firstly gents let me apologise for this rant put I'm very annoyed at my local dealership

I took my Xantia to the local dealership today for an LHM fluid change. Price was very reasonable, actually cheaper than a few local garages.

Picked the car up this afternoon and drove it home no problem. Been out this evening and I'm now driving around with the ((!)) & STOP icons staring me straight in the face!!! funny how this has never happened before going to the garage today!!!

I even checked the fluid and did Citroen aerobics in front of the service guy before I paid - no problems.

The car drives and stops perfectly fine so I can't understand what the issue is.

So much for been the so called 'experts'!!!!!!!

Looks like they'll be receiving a very angry phone call from me tomorrow.

What position is the float level in on LHM tank, are any other warning lights illuminating?

No other warning lights and I'm not sure about the float I will have to check in the daylight tomorrow.

Is the 'STOP' light only linked to LHM related functions?
Sounds most odd if the car is riding at normal height and stopping with no problems.

No pools of fluid under the car are there?

The "STOP" light illuminates along with other lights. It will come on with the ignition and go out once the circuits see that there is no overheating, low oil pressure and sufficient LHM pressure in the system. It may also be linked to the Charging System light too.

It could be that the Pressure switch needs looking at, but I'm no Citroen Expert... It can only be one of three switches.

If the fluid level is correct, that would be my next point of call too. The terminals are standard spade types which are easily opened up by ham-fisted removal. Check the tightness of fit and if suspect, pinch the females closed and re-insert.

I have some results -

Engine off - float is on the bottom red line

Engine running for a couple of minutes and in normal ride height - float is at the very bottom of the glass surround

In high mode - float is even lower than before

In low mode - float is at the top red line

Would this suggest Citroen haven't put enough fluid in and this is why the STOP light is coming on?

All connectors seem fine

From your description it sounds very much as if they haven't put enough LHM into the tank, possibly thinking that the float take its measurement when the car is at its normal ride height. If the stop light illuminates when the ride height position move higher than normal ride height then its all but certain that shortage of LHM is the cause.

Xantia's, XM's and the like are now very old cars in dealer terms and by now quite a number of their technicians may never have worked on Citroens using LHM, hence the reason behind the error.

In normal ride height am I correct when i say the float should be between the two red lines?

Yep, basically there isn't enough fluid in the reservoir. I'd guess a non
hydraulic au fait Cit mechanic may have topped the fluid up with the car
on the normal running height and once the circuiit had stabilised not
topped it up which needs the level checked on the max/high running height.

For peace of mind if you need to use to car today I'd get another litre ot two
from the likes of Halfords if you can grit your teeth and bear paying the silly
money they charge - some GSF and EiuroCarParts open for Sunday mornings
mind. You can revisit the dealer and at the least demand they replace the
fluid you have had to add or remimburse your additional expense. How many
litres of fluid did they charge you for when they did the LHM change?
IIRC it's usually around 4-5litres.

I'm not sure how many litres they changed to be honest but I will ask when the service team call me tomorrow. I rang this morning and left a very blunt message with a member of the sales team.

Leaving the level switch plug off caused me no alarms; I think it closes the circuit to set the STOP light off.

Easy to check - unplug the level switch and see if the warning ceases.

BTW, please check your driver's footwell for LHM...

It's the one on top of your reservoir, plugs in just near the sight bubble.
