Thanks to this forum the above problem has been solved with a small outlay and 1 hrs work.
I too suffered the old vibrating pedal and erratic brakes. A local independent Citroen garage advised that I should pay him £70 to change the LHM when I described the problem - frustratingly he didn't mention the number of ticks that seem to be a good troubleshooting guide on this site.
My ticks were 5 - 6 seconds, the brakes were dodgy, the rear suspension, rose erratically on staring the engine after a very brief stop, and when reversing off the drive in the morning I had no brakes at all!
After describing the fault on this sit I was very quickly advised to change the main accumulator sphere, which I did. It cost £19.50 and took 1 hour Max to change. The hardest part of the job was putting the under tray back on!!
