C5 Coolant Temp Sensor

Post by bodykitboy »

Sorry to be back with another question annoying you guys .

I have a feeling that my coolant temp sensor is acting up at the moment, the engine temp readings i'm getting on the dash are all over the place, there's no regulation to the numbers at all.

i've already changed the thermostat and the coolant and things are still a bit iffy. i've read conflicting reports via the search function over where the sensor is located (to the left side of the rocker cover/ on the right hand side of the engine block above the gearbox/ attached to the expansion tank :?:).

is there any chance someone could shed some light on this or confirm the location of the sensor for me before i rush out and buy the part.

the car is a 2002 C5 2.0 HDi.

the external temp gauge is all over the place too but i asume the two problems are unrelated, and the external temp doesn't bother me, i'm just throwing it out there just encase.

Thanks in advance :)

There is only ONE sensor on the HDi engines thats then connected to ... yup you guessed it an ECU which then controls the dial and the cooling fans..

Its on the side of the head, above the gearbox, the only one there with a blue plug in it..

I say side of the head, but its the water housing...

Hi, if it is the same as the xantia 2.0 Hdi it has an all singing and dancing blue one that has three wires, two to the ECU for engine temp and one that heads to a connector on the inner wing near the battery.
as to where, it is under the intercooler to turbo hose, close to the throttle actuator doochat.
Have fun, Derek B.
our car spent Friday afternoon and Monday morning in the electrics area of the Factory!!

Just discovered last night that the xantia temp sensor is NOT the same as the c5 one... The xantia one is 3 pin but the c5 is two pin. Also the c5 one is green and the xantia one is blue......
