dials have done 360

hi gang,

my dials have done 360,

i reconnected the battery after it being disconnected for about 2 days, and when i reconnected:

my speedo lies under teh rest place under the 0 and the rev counter is down at under the maximum revs of 5000rpm on my hdi xsara

any ideas how to fix this?

If it's the same as the Xantia then it'll either be very easy or a royal pain in the arse!!

First thing to try: Thump the top of the dashboard
Second thing to try: Thump the top of the dashboard a bit hard

Third thing to try is a fine piece of wire pushed through the button to reset the mileage counter. Push the dials with this and they should drop back to their normal resting position.

If that doesn't work then you need to take the dials out of the bar and manually move them back round.

I have heard of some people that drill a tiny hole in the clear plastic in front of the dials to save them removing them completely.

Problem is that they flick round so far and so quickly that they actually jam between the clear plastic and the face of the dial.

Xantia's seem to be good at this too.

Most new modern cars do this on a battery re connect and key on... The rev counter and speedo needles do a clock cycle...

However on the xantia its useually triggered by a flat battery.....

The only was is as david says. Push them back or remove the clocks which on S2 xantias is a real PITA to do....

Its often caused by a flay/low battery, you can normally get it back around by engaging the starter for a split second, dont know the electrical reason behind this but it has worked for me several times

thanks for the help folks!

i got them around again by removing the cover on the mileage reset button, that revealed a whole to gain acces to the dials, i then used the teethed side of a tie rap/cable tie, and AROUSED the black/centre piece of the needle until they spun right all the way around!!!

its got me thinking bout the battery being flat i have noticed that she takes a bit more time to start in the mornin!!

interesting about the low battery theory, cos the car does take 1 to 2 more turns before she starts in a cold morning i have noticed!!!
