2.2 HDi C5 Rear door window dead

Post by tmead »

Hi ! Anybody got any ideas about why one of my rear door windows doesn't work ? It's completely dead from local and drivers switches, and hasn't sprung into life after a battery disconnect to reset BSI/ECU etc.

I've popped the drivers switchpack apart and it's all clean. I can't make that window do anything by jumpering contacts in the pack. The other windows do work well.

I guess the next step is to take a look inside the rear door and see what's there ?

Lexia did report difficulties communicating with the drivers door unit, maybe that's relevant ?

Try the remote window opening/closing next.
My rear driver’s window is normal with remote, wipers and rear door switch, but strange from the driver’s door.

It's dead from the remote too. Doesn't even twitch, clunk or whine !

The window motors are driven by relays in the BSI, the switch panel "talks" to the BSI via a data bus, the same data bus that the Lexia uses to interrogate the switch panel so the problem with the lack of Lexia comms could be associated BUT The rears work a little differently in that the rear switches are not on the data bus, the rear switches work directly on the motor assuming that it has an "authorisation" signal from the BSI. Assuming that one of the rear windows is working from it's local switch then the other should, The fact that the motor is not driving from either the drivers panel or it's own switch suggests that either the motor unit has a problem or there is a connection problem to it.

You could try substituting the motor from the other side, although it wont physically fit the electrical connection will be the same so would at least confirm if the motor is faulty.

Thanks, I'll start by popping the dead door apart and seeing of there is any issue with connections, and making sure that there is power to the motor.

Does anyone know if it is a simple two wire motor, or are there extra wires to sense motion/jamming etc ?

Yes!...................and there are more than two wires :-) and it's not a simple motor.

Thought that was likely to be the case

Anybody got a wiring diagram to help decipher this ?

Well sort off I have the Training Notes for the door system on Mk1's don't think the Mk2 is much different, PM me an email address that will accept attachments and I will send you a copy

Alternatively you could sign up to service.citroen.com as a trade profesional and for 4.5 Euros you could download the proper diagrams which at a practical level may be more useful.

check the wires coming from the car to the door through the rubber tube, there could be a break in there, hold down the button while moving the wires

Thanks - I've wriggled everything I can get my hands on, and can't get any reaction at all.

C5 rear door window dead

Post by tmead »

OK, sorry for the delay, I've been busy - including removing the dent where the missus backed it into the gatepost. grrr.

I can't find any loose connections etc inside the door, its all firm and hunky dory. Next step will be to pop 12V on the main motor terminals and see if it fires up.
Anybody swapped the drive assembly from one of these doors - looks a right pain to do if you ask me. Maybe i wont bother !
