Has anyone been game to try this?

I'm looking at the need to update a couple of AL4 boxes, and don't want to arrive at a point where the process is irretriveably underway yet some critical data issues are not present or matching.

Any verbal pointers on the process, would be most welcome.

Thanks, Adam.

Even with the original equipment, there's always a risk. To minimise this, ensure your power supply isn't marginal, don't allow anything to disrupt the process and ensure no heavy electrical loads can be accidentally activated. Don't even open/close a door, for instance.

I'd say go for it as the software is genuine, it's just unlicensed/pirated.

Adam, I have a spare ZF ecu that I'd love to download an update to get rid of the 3000 rpm when cold 'feature'...

Where do you get the downloads from???

They're in the Lexia version I have, under "Downloads" - look in one of the menus close to startup screen.

The AL4 ones are VIN-matched and I don't think can be rewritten. Wheeler or Birdman would know for sure.

BTW I priced newies in case of calamity; a precoded one is about 290 Euros delivered to me. $400 Oz is quite reasonable I reckon - some sensors cost that much!

Hmmm mine wont help you then, mis-read the first part (dont ask how)... All mine are for the ZF's.

I have noticed however, the 406 and the Xantia (both same year, box & engine) have something different in the gearbox ECU. Tried to do a swap and they just started flashing the trouble lights

Presumably the downloads are taken form the internet, so how do you get the Lexia to converse with the web? I'm sure I found a section to do with internet connectivity which gave only options like ISDN line, etc?

My disc has a "downloads" section on it; as installed it seems all resident there (now on the HDD). It's not model specific; they are all in one lump.

Haven't checked PP to compare.

Keeping a cracked Lexia from talking to Head Orifice is imperative; it may otherwise shut you out and require a reinstall!

I think you can freely swap autobox ECU's between cars no problem. [/b]

Excellent hint; thank you.

While you're here... Can you say if it's possible/advisable to do the software upgrade before new electrovalves are installed? It's just about timing of works.

Cheers, Adam.

I dont see it being a major problem although i've only ever done it the other way around.
One other thing i should add is you should always make sure the engine ECU is up to date aswell, on a car with an auto box if you update one of the ECU's (autobox or injection) you should always update the other.
