removing thermostat from hdi dw10

Post by eurotrotter »

hey gang

i wanna remove my thermostat from my hdi, cos im not sure if its in trouble or not, i changed my coolant last week and since i changed it the car is overheating a little bit more, it was already overheating.

so now i need to know how to remove the thermostat, so that i can throw it into a pot of boiling water to test it, do i just need to unscrew the 3 allen nuts, and simply place it back here and screw back the allen nuts, or is there more to it than this?

Thats it basically. You will loose an amount of coolant though, unless you partially drain down first.
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(

Good point, I did assume it would be done with the engine cold !

If the car overheats a little bit more after changing the coolant, it means that there’s a little bit more air, and a little bit less coolant in the system.
Try finding the highest air vent valve to let the air out.
That’s usually a tyre valve cap on the heater outlet pipe coming out of the bulkhead.
No need to take it out and lose it, just loosen it until coolant comes out.

thanks guys

i have already loosened it, and let it gush out, but it has made no difference

there is hot air coming out of the air vents, afer bout 5 mines of the engine warming up, same temperature air as before the coolant change

i was told to gaffer tape a coke bottle upside down in teh coolant reservoir and vut the base off it, and release the tyre valve a little, and to rev the car for5 mins at 1800rpm, havint tried it yet though

any ideas?
