Android Phone Fault Reader?

Post by PicassoPigeon »

Does anybody know if its possible to connect an android based phone to a Picasso and read fault codes or any other information?

I have a HTC Desire and have seen some apps for reading codes and other information but they say you need a cable to connect from car to phone, any ideas?

Thanks.

Dead cert, it'll be a generic OBD-II diagnostic app.

You can buy bluetooth OBD-II connectors and download software (legal and cracked) to suit - haven't seen a specific set of phone apps, though.

Best thing I can do is post this link

It probably won't work on your Picaso as it won't be OBD II compliant.

There's a bunch of apps in the Android store which work with bluetooth adapters. Some are a bit too complicated but there is one called Torque (both a free and paid version) which looks OK.

I have torque on my Android (Desire HD) and a bluetooth OBD-II device from http://tiny.cc/OBD2, it connects fine and sends info so works a treat, I've not had any errors with my Xantia but I'm sure if you have any, it will read them.

Dealextreme is a good website but full of things you don't really need, delivery is FREE from Hong Kong (no minimum) but delivery times can be up to 3 weeks.

Hope that helps, Lee.

This is extremely interesting.

Can you confirm that your Xantia, which is not OBD II compliant, is working with the Bluetooth OBD II reader?

Yes, it takes a few seconds to connect but when it does, it's fine. I wasn't aware it wasn't OBD-II compliant.

Ah, what year is it? And is it petrol?

Being a diesel person I just assume everyone drives diesel as it's the thinking driver's choice!

Then that isn't OBD II compliant.

Interesting... If I had a smartphone I might think of getting one to play with on both our cars.

Just because they have the OBD type connector doesn't mean that it's OBD II compliant.

My 2001 Xsara is in exactly that situation** and I think my 2003 C5 is as well. It's only 2004 on that diesels HAVE to be compliant. Citroen were never in the vanguard to be compliant so I'm surprised that an S2 Xantia is compliant when it's successor wasn't.

**I tried to use a modified Elm 327 but failed to get the connection recognised.

Ok Fair enough... I thought it was down to the connector type...

I must stand corrected then...

Some months ago, I plugged a Lexia into a Xsara that'd been "diagnosed" by a Citroën specialist.

Clearly they'd been using a generic OBD-II protocol as the log was full of "illegal" operations and actual faults read were vastly different in code number and type, than the data furnished by these roosters.
