Bx door pins
Do you pull them upwards or downwards? And what with? Is this something you can make up yourself as a tool ? Has anybody ever managed to change a door? I'd welcome some advice. Tht flitch panel is ok but the pins are worn.

Hi again Tom [:)]
"Her i Danmark med rustne biler" - it's a common task to replace a door on a "fresh" aquired BX.
Use a pin driver suitable dia and a hammer - the upper front pins from below.
Only in severe rusty cases - the pins may have seized.
The pins usually get stepped by wear - making the job a teaser at times - may help supporting the door.
Rear door pins no problem.
Mask off the surrounding paintwork with tape for protection.
If the door needs replacing - it must be stripped to unplug cables - and then pull out the rubber gaiter - offering out each connector in turn.

I've done them a couple of times. give them a good soaking in penetrting oil the night before. Don't use a pointed drift 'cos being hollow it just tightens them. I got the top ones out going down using a long bolt as a drift (wrapped in cloth to avoid damaging paint)to get it started - has to be at a slight angle, then a shorter bolt - but don't get the bolt stuck or that's even worse to extract! Do support door as Anders says so it takes the weight off the pin - I used a (padded)axle stand. Think bottom ones went down also but either way you can't get a good swing of the hammer! I found a 2 lb lump hammer (used relatively lightly) better than a smaller hammer used heavily!

Smallest size in Machine mart door-pin removal set fits door pins, next one up for stay. I've seen a similar set of removal pins on the internet somewhere for a few quid opposed to the £10-ish for the Clarke set mentioned above (but without chunky removal bar which has indentation for pin). Seem to remember going upward rather than downward.
If the stay needs to come off then the pin has a habit of sticking to the stay bar so penetrating oil as above is a good idea.
I've only taken off - not replaced!
