Troublesome C3 HDi

Post by Andy F »

Hi,

The mother-in-laws 2005 C3 1.4 HDi 16v is showing an engine management fault and light.

So i disconnected the battery and the light went out. it idled fine for 5 minutes so i thought i would move it. When i touched the accelerator the light and fault message came up again

When the fault light was on i noticed that the main cooling fan kicked in for a second following a loud tick, then slowed to a stop. This happens at about 1 minute intervals.

I disconnected the sensor on the coolant reservoir, cleaned the contacts reconnected it and reset the ECU again, it went out and stayed out. It drove fine for about 4 days later when it came back.

The car doesn't over heat, but seems slow to get up to temperature, not sure what is normal for this engine though

Shes bringing it around over the weekend, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Andy

Just an update...

No luck so far, reset again and light looks like it is here to stay.

One thing about the display is that it doesn't say information like my C5, its just the light on the dashboard.

Does this mean it could be an antipollution fault? Does this engine in this have eolys fluid and a filter?

Any input appreciated

Thanks

The best advice that I have to offer is to locate a participating member of the FCF Lexia Community and arrange a diagnostic session.
It is likely an Antipollution fault but there are many reasons it may throw that up, you are pretty much groping in the dark without some diagnostics to point the way.

Thanks for the reply, According to the map there are no Lexia members around the Gloucestershire area.

I have been thinking for a while i might need a lexia, but not really sure where to start. Do i need a laptop?

Is there a particular version that is recommended and will it do both the C3 HDi 16v and my older 2001 2.0hdi 8v C5?

No problems with the C5 as yet but a Lexia seems like a good idea

Cheers

I had a 307 with the 1.4hdi and there was no particle filter.
For what we are about to receive may we be truly thank full.
