It's odd how the lack of cash in my wallet is directly proportionate to the level of anxiety I feel on MOT days.

I think she'll need at least one new number plate and if last year's advisories were truly necessary (I seriously have my doubts) I'll need a bank loan this week.

And why is it, everytime I use a pin to clear the windscreen jets, it has the opposite effect and reduces flow?

Tip: Compressed air (blow into the outlet, with the feed pipe removed) works a lot better at clearing washer jets and will not damage them. If that fails get some new ones.

Was just about to say the same thing about clearing washer jets !
It's always the passenger side on mine and I'm sure that the problem is due to rubber particles from the bonnet edge seal that is used as a tube to transfer water to the passenger jet. Anyway, a good blast out with an air gun sorts it for a year or so.

That sounds really probable as a diagnosis - the root cause had me puzzled.

Thanks for the good wishes and advice, chaps.

Me and my wallet are both very happy despite them charging £50 per test. She passed straight off (and I forgot to turn the fuelling down for the smoke test!)

Absorption co-efficient measured 1.38l/m of a 1.5l/m limit.

I got an advisory for the rear number plate, front droplink, a couple (OSR and NSF) of corroded but not seriously weakened hydraulic pipes and two partially flat rear spheres.

It is the passenger side washer jet that's partially blocked, HDI! Oddly, I can stick the pin in the dribbling outlet all the way but the better flowing outlet will only take a few mm before the pin bends! Looks like replacement will be needed but I guess they'll be cheap enough - no air lines here I can use.

Yes, they are not much new (assuming the usual plastic twin jet one) not the later 'atomiser' type sprayer, they are a bit more expensive, iirc £7 odd each I fitted two to mine with a bit of handywork but they blocked eventually, and emptied the bottle quick too.

I just change mine if I cannot unblock it, its not worth really struggling for ages only to have it block up again a day later for the sake of say £3, I value seeing where I am going

Good to hear MOT was not too bad though

Yes, tis the square twin outlet jets I have, spider. Might stop off at Citroen's later, I want to check their LHM prices as ebay prices are getting similar to Halfords!

I'm still buzzing from the relief of it passing.

I have been this weekend Mike. Saturday and yesterday so I'm just spending today chilling, though do have to go to Peugeot in a while for some bits.

The exhaust was removed from the Activa on Saturday ready for the replacement. Also did the filters and plugs (though haven't looked for the fuel filter yet)

Yesterday I changed the oil again in the Coupé. Though I haven't yet plucked up the courage top do the gearbox oil.

take your kniples/whoops jets off and ask a local garage to blast them out with there air line/gun, or buy a airasol can of compresed air and blow them out yourself,

dont buy new jets before you have tried the blow job method

and if you didnt polish

(or is that Vince

) your car, the jets wouldnt get blocked , unless you have sludge in your washer bottle,

Always a good feeling when it sails through, i dread the moment after the test where they are filling in the paperwork, they never tell me if its passed until they hand me the green slip.

I assume the jets won't want to withdraw from the tight tubing so readily. Douse in some hot water I'm thinking, get them stretchy and supple first?

or a cigy light gently waved by the tube, or even a hair dryer,

it can be the getting them away from the bonnet that causes there down fall,

when the plastic lug/latch snaps off,

i think whats happening with your kniples is, every time you poke the dirt back into the jet, then it get blastted back again as you opperate the washers,
