Xantia Boot Quandry!

Post by Rhothgar »

HELP! PLEASE!

I cannot get into my S1 Xantia Hatch boot from the outside.

Like an idiot, I took the lock out a while ago after reading one fo Vert Vega's posts and assumed that I could strip the thing down.

When I reliased I couldn't I doused it in WD40 and it operated a few times before becoming noisier which was the problem I was trying to fix.

It stopped working altogether and just makes a very LOUD noise!

Is there a way I can get into a Xantia Hatchback from the inside using a screwdriver? I know this can be done on an Estate but how I am going to get into mine?

Ideas / put-downs / comments all tolerated!

Fold down rear seats and climb in / remove tailgate trim ?

Does these have the 'lock' for the rear seats on the boot side like a 406 ?

In that case you'll have to unbolt one of the rear seats from inside the cabin, should be possible although not a nice job.

I had to search my post and fortunately I found it easily with the correct search words.
Here is the topic Tailgate lock problem - dated Oct. 2009.

The tailgate lock actuator which is seen in the picture (above link) was very noisy any it didn't function in mine.
Attn.: It is welded (I guess ultrasonic welding) and it is not possible to attach covers once it is opened.
My replacement actuator still works fine.

As spider already said, you can get into the boot, by folding rear seats, just like in Estate models.

Edit: If any help from this pic. Xantia MK1 Saloon Lock Mechanism:

#3 is the actuator which would be the source of the noise.

Thanks Vert Vega.

In that post, Mike T mentions the special features of the hatch and then says nothing else.

IIRC, these instructions were for an Estate.

I also note that it is mentioned that by CitroJim, IFSMC, that it is identical to a 205 lock.

Can the same be said for a 309 / 405 / 406? Because that then opens up more spares accessibility!

Roger, once you are in the boot area, you can pierce the boot trim with a very small screwdriver about 30-40mm above the boot floor and slightly to the right of the centreline, say 15mm. If you then push the blade to the left, it will click on the pull mechanism for the lock, and le voila! the door will open. This allows you to get at the trim and remove it to check the solenoid operation.

I'll check on the parts listing for you for the solenoid, but you need to ensure it is faulty and it is not a connectivity problem first.
