For the last few weeks i,ve been worrying about changing the accumulator sphere on my xantia!. Finally got round to doing it today with no problems and would just like to thank everyone for the help and advice that i found on here!! Sphere was bloody tight but came off ok with the help of the home made removal tool described in hints and tips (and a big heave!!)
hydraulic pump "tick" rate is now just over a minute (instead of 10 secs!) so hopefully all is well now!!

Glad it went without any added drama for you, no doubt you will find a big difference in the car now.

Don,t know what i was getting my knickers in a twist about now i,ve done it!! but it seems to have cured the rear suspension dropping on start up as well (happy days!!!).
i certainly wont be worried about changing spheres in the future!!!

if your accumulator needed changing then chances are the rear accumulator (anti-sink sphere) also needs changing.

You'll need a 9mm flare spanner, a 4.5mm pipe seal (GSF do them for not a lot), and some patience when you try and screw the pipe nut back into the sphere

The procedure is simple:
1. Set car on high, put axle stands under rear jacking points, set car on low and depressurise.
2. Hook flare spanner on A/S sphere pipe nut.
3. Unscrew sphere which will then screw it off the pipe nut.
4. Fit new seal to sphere/end of pipe (whichever turns out to be easiest).
5. With the large o-ring on, to keep the sphere from rusting to the socket, screw the sphere in just enough to hold it in place.
6. Wiggle, twist, push, swear, threaten to hit with a hammer, the pipe nut back into the thread in the end of the sphere just enough to get it going.
7. Fit the flare spanner again and screw the sphere home.
8. Nip up the pipe nut.
9. Have a well earned cup of tea.
10. Job done.

Surely you forgot lay on your back underneath car and kick it!! (or is that a bit harsh lol !!!) Didn,t know you could get that sort of info on forum!!!
