Interested in XM 2.0 Turbo Petrol

Post by Ramocc »

Currently own a Xantia 1.8, but have always wanted an XM. Saw this ad for this car
Image.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to look out for in a mark 1 XM. I've done a bit on Xantia hydraulics, I'm assuming the XM is pretty much the same? The car has 100,000 miles on it, are there any specific things that tend to go that I should out for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The original ad is here http://belfast.gumtree.com/belfast/40/73950740.html.

The hydraulics are pretty much the same as the Xantia but this xm will not be Anti sink, its a real citroen  .
This is also a MK 1.5 and as such is the best age to have as you get sports and auto mode suspension and not auto and slightly more auto mode, the windows dont drop out, its got the citroen dash not the one that was pinched out of the pug 405 and the suspension doesnt pack up and give a hard ride due to diode issues.

you will not be dissapointed with this car as the owner is known here and is in fact the XM Columnist for the CCC magazine, he is an honest bloke, a bit shady, but honest

As with any Car though check the fluids are clean, that everything works, brakes sharp, steering tight and light, no abs lights, also make sure the suspension is nice and soft and the ride height looks good.
If its an auto make sure it drives through all the gears reasonably smoothly and that there is no jerky engagement going between R N and D, also check that the 3rd to 4th shift is smooth and the revs dont go shooting up between changes.

Like i say though all this is unimportant, it will be a nice car this one.

Thats Robert Smarts XM Im sure! Certainly as its advertised in Ireland!!

The S1.5 XM's, Kreg, L reg and Early M Reg cars ARE the ones to get. They hae the Mk.2 Bolted earths, suspension useually ALWAYS works, hardley blows the ECU, ABS can give problems, brake light wanring light failure messages easilly fixed...

XM Suspension SHOULD sink after key is off for a while, anti sink DIDN'T come along till around N to P reg 1996...

Remember the 25th looms!!!!
Thanks for reminding me Jim!!

I'll add that to my very long to do list. Being back up at Univerisity and being between teaching placements has me up to my eyes in work, from assignments (which also coincide with CCC deadlines :( ) and applying for the very few teaching posts that do come up; selling cars has taken a bit of a back seat, and is not the number one priority.

Good, kick the cattle out, put the cars inside and get your head down at uni and finnish, then when your rich you wont have to regret selling them
