saggy back end on zx

Post by xantia sx auto »

I got another zx today and notice the back end on the new one is higher than my old one, unfortunately i can't drive the new one as it's a manual and i only got it to swap some bits then sell on, is there something I can swap over to make mine as high as it should be or is it going to take too much work?
thanks

Rear height on the ZX requires stripping out the torsion bars on the rear suspension and resetting them on a different spline or two. Not a job for the faint-hearted!

Or you could take off the whole rear axle and swap them over.

so if i remove the entire rear axel do I need to worry about unloading the taution bars or is it just a case of unbolting the whole rear axel and then bolting it on mine?? is it a big job?
are both sides independent or does it all come out in one lump??
thanks

I was only kidding about taking off the rear axle.

You would need to jack up the car on stable supports, remove exhaust, disconnect brake lines and cables, unbolt front and rear sub-frame mounts, etc. You may then find that you need to replace all for sub-frame mounts, do any localized welding that may appear, ............

Either way you are in for a job, along with the lose of skin on your knuckles.

If you want the back-end height adjusted, PM me.

Taking an axle complete is a lot easier than trying to take it apart to repair it, although in theory its only a few bolts to swap them, its has been said its all the other associated things you see not to mention brakes / handbrake cables etc...

What model ZX is it?

I know Volcanes have a slightly lower back end than the garden variety ZX (or rather it should have).

Perhaps at some stage someone swapped a Volcane (or similar) back axle assembly on there?
